Medium size plying spindle in Lace Blackheart Teatree and Dymondwood - medium weight

This item was made by Jory Freyee under the guidance of master craftsman Malcolm Fielding.

The spindle shaft of this heirloom quality item is made in Dymondwood for long life and wobble free performance. The shaft is a medium length, and this and the large whorl allows this spindle to hold a large cop. The whorl is made in select Lace Blackheart Teatree, a melaleuca species from Tasmania. The whorl is hollowed underneath to maximise spin for the weight. The spindle has a handmade transverse style stainless steel hook terminal, that has been fine tuned for accurate centreing of the thread. Refer to the last photo of a different spindle for correct threading of this hook type (do not wrap your fibre around the centre line of the hook or spindle as this will throw it off centre).

The whorl has a carefully smoothed notch on the edge, that locates the thread to the back of the hook and gives a secure hold. It is very quick and easy to re-locate the thread for the next spin. This spindle suits light to extra light weight spinning. The long shaft takes a large cop and facilitates thigh-rolling spinning.

The spindle is polished with a high shine French polish and a final gloss of carnauba wax adds durability.

This spindle has medium speed spin with very long sustain and my trademark excellent balance, having been tested on a balance jig.

Dimensions - whorl diameter approx 75 mm, (3 in), spindle length overall including hook - 305 mm, (10.5 in), weight about 44 grams (1.55 oz). All my spindles are tested before despatch and come with a free sample of Corriedale roving from Tasmania. Your spindle is in stock and is the one pictured here.
