Tahkli style support spindle, titanium tipped in Webbwood & Dymondwood (longer shaft style)

This medium size support spindle design has a rim weighted whorl on a medium size Dymondwood shaft around 245 mm long, or about 9.5 in, weighing about 0.83 oz (25 g). It is fast and light with the trademark perfect spin of my spindles. The mediu size Webbwood* whorl is a pretty shape hollowed on both faces, with weight concentrated near the rim for sustain. The balance of this piece is excellent.

The spindle is finished to a very smooth surface, polished with a french polish and then a final gloss of carnauba wax for a long lasting shine and protection. The support tip has a carefully shaped titanium point for long spins and is made for long life and low friction.

Your spindle is checked for quality and spin before despatch and comes with tip protectors and is packed with some Tasmanian Merino roving and a signed tag with the woods used listed and date of making.

The spindle operates at a very high speed and is very easy to flick with a small diameter where it is held to be flicked allowing high rotation speeds to be achieved with ease. It is suited to short staple fibres such as silk or cotton for very fine singles.

*Webbwood is a wood laminate made from dyed veneers, set in a resin glue binder and dried under high pressure to create an extremely durable and stable material ideal for use in fibre tools. It is similar to Dymondwood (which is now no longer made) but more dense.
