The "Torus"- titanium tipped supported spindle in Tiger Myrtle and Dymondwood

This lovely supported spindle design is an heirloom quality item designed for a lifetime of use. The photos show the item you will receive. Hand turned in 2018 by Jory Freyee with from a design and parts made by master craftsman Malcolm Fielding in the workshops of the SpindleShop, Queensland, Australia. 100% Australian made, no parts are outsourced or made on copying machines. All products are tested and quality controlled.

This spindle is a development of ideas I have worked on for supported spindles with more spin duration.  The spin characteristic and general size and handing make this design intermediate between traditional Russian and traditional Tibetan spindles.

The whorl is made from Tiger Myrtle , finishing to a smooth satin gloss. The shaft is made from Dymondwood. Dymondwood is ideal for a supported spindle as it is completely stable and very hard wearing. The spindle is finished with french polish for a long lasting shine and protection.

The torus shaped whorl is deep hollowed from underneath and on top, and this shape adds great duration to the spin. The support tip has a fine titanium point for extended life, long spins and low friction.

Your spindle is checked for quality and spin before despatch and comes with tip protectors and is packed with some Merino superfine roving and a tag with the woods used listed and date of making.

This spindle style has a  very long spin and excellent balance. The spindle operates at a medium to high speed and is very easy to flick.

Dimensions - spindle length approx overall 270 mm, (10 in),  weight 24.5 grams (0.86 oz approx). All my spindles are tested before despatch.
