Turkish spindle made in Red Beech with Dymondwood shaft - medium size/light weight Made by Malcolm Fielding. Similar item shown in these photos. The shaft, made in Dymondwood, has a small notch near the top for securing a half hitch. The lower part of the shaft has a notch feature to allow the leader to be tied there so it can be retrieved when the spindle is taken apart after winding the cop. The slotted arm Turkish whorl is made from Red Beech (a fine grained hard native Queensland species not related to European Beech). The upper arm locates at right angles through the slot in the lower arm (line up the locating dots on underside of the arms) and the shaft holes are a fit to the taper on the shaft to hold the whorl nicely in position. The whorl is finished to a silk finish with fine hand sanding and then two coats of Organoil (an organic oil blend of tung oil and mixed citrus oils). The balance has been tested and corrected by adjustment of the arm weights for smooth performance. It weighs about 23 grams (about 0.75 oz) with a shaft length of about 170 mm (6.6 in) and whorl diameter 100 mm (4 in). All my spindles are spin tested (with and without fibre) before despatch, packed with care in high strength card tubing, and supplied with a free sample of top quality Australian fibre to get you acquainted with your new tool. SEQUENCE #1209 Please note that the colour in photos viewed on the internet can only ever be a general guide as to how the item appears in real life. So many variables affect this - especially the type of screen that you view on. We make every effort to colour balance our photos so that the resulting images are as close to the true appearance as possible, but you may be seeing something different. Also remember that some woods change colour over time, and when exposed to direct sunlight.
