Top whorl drop spindle in Myrtle, Burdekin Plum and Dymondwood, medium weight & size This rim-weighted design spindle was made by Jory Freyee and Malcolm Fielding, in the workshops of the Spindleshop, Queensland, Australia. Photos show the one you will receive. No parts were outsourced or made by other businesses. This one is one of Jory's new designs. The spindle shaft of this heirloom quality item is made in Dymondwood for long life and wobble free performance. The twin wood whorl is made from a Tasmanian Myrtle (upper part) and Burdekin Plum (Queensland) around the rim.. It features two Dymondwood black line inlays. The shape of the design, especially the underside hollowing, makes this a rim weighted design with extended spin. The spindle has a handmade stainless steel hook transverse hook terminal, that has been fine tuned for accurate centreing of the thread. The whorl has a notch that locates the thread to the back of the hook and gives a secure hold. Simply place the fibre in the notch and lead the thread into the hook (without winding around the centre of the spindle or hook - as shown in the last image. It is very quick and easy to re-locate the thread for the next spin. This spindle suits medium weight spinning or plying. The medium size shaft and large diameter means this spindle takes a large cop. The spindle is polished with a high shine French polish and a final gloss of carnauba wax adds durability. This spindle has fast spin and my trademark perfect balance, having been tested on a balance jig and has brass puin weighting inserted in the edge of the whorl. Dimensions - whorl diameter approx 68 mm, (2.70 in), spindle length overall including hook - 260 mm, (10.3 in), weight about 40 grams (1.4 oz). All my spindles are tested before despatch and come with a free sample of Corriedale roving from Tasmania. This item is in stock.
