Art Deco style Tibetan supported spindle, light weight in Dymondwood ("Silk Spindle") This lovely mini Tibetan style supported spindle design will be a delight for the spinner who loves a supported spindle. It is light weight (aroud 26 g or 0.9 oz) and about 9.75 in (245 mm) long. Your spindle will be very similar to the one shown in the photos and is the same weight and size as quoted here. It is a high speed spinner suited to spinning silk or other fine fibres. The design is an original one by maker Jory Freyee of TheSpindleShop. It is long and slender with a low set whorl. All the spindle parts are made from Dymondwood (TM), this is a composite material made from dyed wood veneers laminated and glued together under great pressure with a resin. The result is a highly attractive blend of colours, depending on the angle of the veneers different visual effects are created. The material has the added advantage that it is warp-free and dimensionally stable - Dymondwood will resist warping with humidity changes. The spindle is finished to a very smooth surface, polished with a french polish and then a final gloss of carnauba wax for a long lasting shine and protection. The support tip has a fine point made from titanium for long spins and extreme long life. Your spindle is checked for quality and spin before despatch and comes with a tip protector and is packed with some Tasmanian Merino superfine roving and a signed card with the woods used listed and date of making. This spindle style has a remarkably long spin and perfect balance. The spindle operates at a high speed and is very easy to flick.
